The past few days I've had these pounding headaches in the afternoon. I wake up in the morning feeling great, have a superfood smoothie, then as the hours pass I feel more and more like crap. I don't know if its the coffee withdrawals or I am adjusting to the dietary changes; but either way it sucks.
On a random side note: if anyone is thinking about investing money into a garmin running gps, DONT! You can get a really great APP on your phone for 3 dollars that does the exact same job. Coming from someone who last year spent 350$ on one, I felt pretty stupid when I experienced how well my iPhone handled the same task.
Run today: 30 minutes, 5.5 km! There are some brutal hills in Toronto.
I was soooo lazy today, so I just dad yesterdays cucumber, radish and dill salad.
Cucumber salad:
2 organic cucumbers, sliced and diced
5-8 radishes, sliced thinly (I hate giant mouthfuls of radish)
1 avocado, chopped
1/4 cup fresh dill
Dressing:
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp apple cider dress
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp shallot minced
pinch of salt and pepper
Now I'm off to shut off all the lights, block out the noise, and try to get my head to stop pounding.

Mushroom pate/dip
This looks pretty gross, as most pate's do, but it tastes excellent! I think I'm going to spread it on some raw wraps with some veggies for a tasty afternoon snack!
Raw Mushroom Pate (adapted from Raw Express):
1.5 cups sliced and diced mini bella mushrooms
1/2 cup chopped raw walnuts
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp nama shoyu
1 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp salt
sprinkle of pepper
1 tsp thyme
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp parsley
The recipe called to blend it, but mine ended up being too mushy. So I recommend using a food processor and pulsing it very briefly! The original recipe also called for 2 tbsp water, but I found it very unnecessary.
Have a great day everyone :)

Green-plug-your-nose-soup
Green energy soup that you can't eat like a soup because its so disgusting so you just chug it with your nose plugged. Yep, that's what I made. Don't let the pretty sliced bell peppers dissuade you.
Green Energy Soup (from Going Raw)
2 cups of water
5 leaves of kale, stems removed
2 tomatoes
1/2 cucumber
2 tbsp lime juice
2 cloves garlic
1 tsp sea salt
pinch cayenne
1/2 avocado
1 red bell pepper, diced for garnish
Blend all ingredients and serve with a straw ;)
Don't get me wrong, this soup wasn't all bad. It helped me stay full, and I felt pretty good after drinking it. Usually kale hits me the wrong way, but some reason it didn't. So...yai for making kale digestible!!

Sangria and hangovers
To go along with my wonderful detox, Husband and I drank too much and for too long last night. I haven't had a late night where you're going home while people are out for their morning jogs, in a long long while haha. So needless to day, today was spent moaning and rolling around like a big baby. When I was younger, I would crave greasy and horrible foods when I was hungover. Today I just craved rice: so I gave in.
I did make amazing sangria though, so that made up for my poor choices ;)
Screw The Detox Sangria: (adapted from Choosing Raw)
1 bottle of organic red ( I did Merlot)
4 cups of san pellegrino
1/2 cup agave
juice of 2 oranges
juice of 1 lemon
juice of 2 limes
2 apples, cored and sliced
1/2 cup mixed berries
Mix the wine, agave, apples and juices together. When ready to serve, mix in the berries and bubbly water. Make sure to chill before hand! Garnish with some sliced oranges.
So here is to amazing friends, amazing drinks, and an amazing Husband :)

Daily salad
Everyday I have a large salad for lunch. It's easy, quick, and a great way to get in all your colours for veggies. I make one dressing a week, and make enough of it to last both Husband and I. When eating raw or any sort of healthy diet, you have to plan ahead and make bulk quantities of things that have a longer shelf life (like almond milk, crackers, hummus, dressings, and sauces).
Spinach with bell pepper, cucumber, easy-peasy-guacamole, hemp seeds, and a lemon shallot vinaigrette.
Today Husband and I are going to look at townhouse nearby and I am so excited! It will be great to have a home where there is a front door that opens to the road and not having to take an elevator everyday!
Here is a little teaser for an amazing recipe later!

The Best Dessert .....ever
I'm ALWAYS a pastry kind of dessert person. But when Husband asked for this mousse and I actually tried it, boy was I glad I did. I caught myself scooping chocolate mousse out of the blender with my hands and eating it.
It's a chocolate orange cream with an avocado base, and a vanilla coconut cream with a cashew base. So amazing. It only took about 10 minutes to prepare, so I highly recommend trying it.
Orange Chocolate Mousse Parfait (from Going Raw):
Chocolate orange part:
2 large avocados
2/3 cup cacao powder
3/4 cup agave nectar
1.5 tsp grated orange zest
Blend all ingredients and refrigerate for two hours.
Vanilla cream part:
1.5 cups cashews, soaked for 2 hours
1/3 cup liquid coconut oil
1/3 cup water
1/3 cup agave nectar
1 tsp vanilla extract
Blend all ingredients and refrigerate for two hours.
Once it has chilled and reached a desired consistency, layer in a beautiful glass and enjoy!
I still can't figure out how to reply to comments, so for beegie_b who asked where I get vanilla bean: I buy it at a local health food store, its about 3 dollars for two beans. Im sure that buying it online in bulk would be much better.

Snack for a tired juijitsu goer'
Since I'm home for most of the day I try to have something healthy and nutritious ready for him when he comes home to prepare him for his 2 hours of martial arts training and help him recover from the heavy lifting at work.
Today I made a zucchini hummus and served it with sliced bell pepper. I had anticipated to have raw flax crackers ready, but they're still dehydrating :)
Zucchini Hummus ( from Going Raw by Judita)
1 cup peeled and chopped zucchini ( usually about 1 zucchini)
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
2 tbsp olive oil
3 cloves of garlic
1 tsp sea salt
1/2 tsp paprika
pinch cayenne
1/2 cup tahini
2 tsp dried or fresh parsley, I used dried
Blend all ingredients and serve with pine nuts or any other garnish!
And a super cute picture of Gigi
